McDonald's Corporation(NYSE:MCD) not to sell packaged coffee in the U.S.

Hamburger chain McDonald's Corporation(NYSE:MCD) has no plans currently to sell packaged coffee in the United States, a company spokeswoman said on Friday.

The company will be selling its packaged coffee at its restaurants in Canada from next month, but has no plans to extend that to the U.S.

News of the company's plans to sell the McCafe-branded coffee in Canada came shortly after market watchers noticed that McDonald's had filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to use its McCafe brand for "ground and whole bean coffee, Reuters reported.

This was the trigger for the speculation that the world's largest fast food chain may start selling packaged coffee in the States as well.

When asked if the company had plans to bring bagged coffee to the United States, McDonald's spokeswoman Heather Oldani said: "No, not at this time," the Reuters report said.

There are already big retailers such as Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts which sell packaged coffee through their shops and other retail outlets.

At present McDonald's sells McCafe beverages that are a big hit and is responsible for a boost in profits of the company.

Shares in McDonald's closed down 0.7 percent at $86.71 on the New York Stock Exchange.
