Is Lumia A Real Turnaround Formula For NOK and Investors Should The Stock Now? Find Out Here

In the United States, where Nokia is determined to make its mark, the company has tied up with other network carriers as well such as Verizon and T-Mobile.

Each of the network carriers will be selling custom-made versions of the phone will which were unveiled publicly on September 5.

Breaking into the U.S. market is critical for any handset maker and all the more so for Nokia, which has been struggling with dwindling sales. The U.S. is the largest market in the world for mobiles and success there would translate into positive consumer sentiment in other markets as well.

The release of the smartphones by Nokia have been delayed as its software partner Microsoft was not ready with the operating system Windows Phone 8, that was released only late last month.

In partnership with Microsoft, Nokia is making an all-out effort to regain some of the ground and the market share that it has lost to companies such as Apple and Samsung, which have powered ahead in the mobile market, especially in the smartphone segment.

Those who have compared Nokia's Lumia 920 with Apple's iPhone 5 feel that the Nokia phone is definitely a superior product.

Will SIRI Hit $5 This Year? Find Out Here

At&T has proposed to purchase Wireless Communications Service from Comcast Corp, Horizon Wi-Com LLC and Nextwave Wireless Inc, as per to an FCC notice that seek comments on the acquisitions.

AT&T’s vice president, who is responsible for dealing with federal regulators, Joan Marsh that the company based in Dallas could start installing equipment for the spectrum band in a matter of three years.

Restrictions that are meant to protect Sirius have kept mobile service providers from making intensive used of the Wireless Communications band, Sirius and AT&T had said this in a filing that took place on 15th June. The filing offered a ‘compromise’.  Sirius has operated with insecurity as to whether the FCC would change the regulations in ways that would allow meddling with satellite signals.

The FCC is trying to free more airwaves for use by high-speed wireless gadgets like iPhones. It had auctioned off the WCS spectrum back in 1997. However, it has never been put into any meaningful use owing to the risks for interference.

An analyst of Bank of America, Jessica Reif Cohen has added Sirius XM to the chart of top stocks of the bank. Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) Lumias to go on sale in Germany on Nov 1, Shares Up On Earnings Beat

Nokia Corporation (ADR)(NYSE:NOK)’s Lumia 920 and 820 will be released in Germany on November 1, according to German retailer Media Markt which has it listed on its website.

On that day customers will be able to get the unlocked, SIM-free Lumia smartphones at a price of about $582 for the Lumia 820 and $841 for the Lumia 920.

That makes it fairly expensive compared to competing smartphones in the market, especially the iPhone 5 which is retailing at about $720 in most markets.

While prices might go down in a few months that kind of price may deter purchasers who may well be trying out a Nokia Lumia smartphone for the first time.

Intomobile, which reported the development, said that carriers in Germany would also start offering the smartphones for free with contracts that could start at 25 to 30 euros a month.

Will NOK Hit $5 This Year? Find Out Here

In the United States, the country's No.1 network carrier, AT&T Inc.(NYSE:T ) has entered into an exclusive deal to sell the Nokia Lumia 920.

According to WPCentral, the company has entered into a six-month long exclusivity deal with Nokia for selling the phones.

Which means that customers who are on Verizon or T-Mobile will have to wait for six months before they can get their hands on the mobile and their carriers can start selling them, or switch their service provider altogether.

It all depends on the initial user experience of the Lumias, which is sure to be known within the first two days of it going on sale.

Nokia, it may be recalled, is tweaking the Lumias, which it launched in September, to suit the requirements of each of the carriers it has tied up with.

Shares of NOK jumped over 5% in the pre-open session the company’s Q3 revenue beat analysts’ target by 200 Million euros, while posted small adjusted operating profit instead of the expected loss. A better than expected results were driven by strong performance in emerging markets for Asha feature phone sales, which boosted margins as well.

Interestingly, the company has topped wall street’s estimates in terms of phone volume growth in the past two quarters, whereas analysts were projective a decline.

Rumour: Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) may start taking pre-orders for Windows Phone 8 from Oct 21

There are reports going around that AT&T Inc.(NYSE:T) and Microsoft Corporation(NASDAQ:MSFT) may start pre-orders of the Windows Phone 8 on October 21 and the network carrier may start taking credit cards for the HTC 8X and Nokia Lumia 920.

There has been no firm date set for the sale of the Nokia smartphones so far, except for some reports that the smartphones will start retailing sometime in early November.

There is also no clarity as to whether other carriers such as Verizon and T Mobile will also be starting their pre-orders at the same time.

"In the past, despite reported low sales numbers, Nokia’s Lumia 900 smartphone has been a popular item at launch on AT&T, leading to sell outs at many retail locations," Gotta Be Mobile reported.

" It’s unclear if preorders will sell out and what amounts of inventories AT&T and Microsoft have planned for forthcoming Windows Phone 8 handsets, including the Lumia 820, Lumia 920, and the HTC 8X."

The Finnish handset maker has pulled out all stops to ensure that it gets a sizeable toehold in the smartphone segment and this time has tied up with the top 3 network carriers in the United States.

AT&T is not only offering Windows Phone 8 software but also devices based on its Windows 8 operating software for personal computers and Windows RT platforms.

The tablets would launch on October 26 and Windows Phone 8 devices are expected to appear in early November.

AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) to decrease prices in order to increase popularity

A new, cheaper prepaid plan, with greater facilities, is being introduced by AT&T Inc.(NYSE:T) Mobility, in order to keep up with the competition from Verizon. The new prepaid plan offers Unlimited Voice, Unlimited texting, and 1 GB of data download, in order to compete with Verizon Wireless.

The new prices which AT&T is offering are bringing it closer to the no-contract offerings. The new prepaid plan is priced at $65, and is called the AT&T GoPhone Plan. It will be made available to the public from the 7thof October, and apart from the unlimited texting within the country, the new scheme will also include unlimited texts to Mexico, Canada as well as texts to a 100 other countries. This is a marked change, and is a lot cheaper than the previous plan by the company, under which for $75, one could get unlimited voice and texting, along with 1 GB of data download.

The other plans which the network offers will continue as they were. The $50 plan of unlimited voice and texting, the $25 plan of unlimited texting, and two hundred and fifty minutes of voice, as well the optional data packages which can accompany these plans, will remain unchanged.  AT&T has a fixed rate for the data packages, which is $25 for one GB, $15 for 200 MB and $5 for fifty MB.

By decreasing the price of the plan, AT&T stands to make itself more popular because its plan is fifteen dollars cheaper than the same plan offered by Verizon. The same offerings are included in the plan which Verizon had launched in May, but for $80. However, the company had made up for the price by increasing the number of smartphones which could use the scheme. Motorola, Android phones, Palm, Nokia, Research in Motion and other such companies were made eligible to include the network into their smartphones.

AT&T has also increased the number of smartphones which can use its network in them. However, both the companies, despite their efforts, are still amongst the high-priced range when it comes to offers of network services on phones. There are a number of   network companies with cheaper options.
