Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc.(NASDAQ:GMCR) plan to expand, and reach out

The executive at the Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc.(NASDAQ:GMCR) will have his/her own unique set of duties. Along with the duties of a regular executive, the coffee making company will appoint their executives to look for business for the company beyond North America. The top executive at the company will have this unique job to fulfill as well. The man in charge of the Canada Unit of Green Mountain, Gerard Geoffrion will be in charge of looking out for business beyond U.S.A and Canada. He became the president for the section of Green Mountain which will henceforth be dedicated to international business expansion and development.
The company has been prudent in deciding to branch out and explore new places. The sales are not going too well for Green Mountain. The company growth rate is no longer as phenomenal as it used to be. Analysts have been predicting that the sales of the coffee company will be reduced to half its amount this year, and by next year, it has chances of reducing even more. Keurig is the single-serve coffee which Green Mountain had come up with, and it has spread through most of North America. The company is also down in the dumps because of the loss of patent on the unique cups which the Keurig is usually served in. these cups are called K-Cups.
The company, however, has either not decided on, or has decided to not reveal the names of the countries they plan to expand to.  Geoffrion was unavailable for comments on behalf of the company, although, a spokeswoman was present, and she said that Geoffrion was best suited to take on this task. Green Mountain crossed over into Canada after taking over Van Houtte, which had been run by Geoffrion for fifteen years. After this acquisition, he came aboard the Green Mountain team.
There are other reasons which might be playing on Green Mountain lately. Single-serve coffee has begun to appeal to Starbucks right now, and they will be releasing their own coffee-maker for the single-serve doses, very soon. The market may change, depending on how people will take to Starbucks single-serve. Also, rising food prices, and criticism David Einhorn from Greenlight Capital are other factors which may have inspired the plans of expansion.

As coffee-culture grows in China, so does business for Nestle SA (PINK:NSRGY)

While the market for coffee is dominated by Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc.(NASDAQ:GMCR), The coffee market in Europe is mainly lead by Nestle SA (PINK:NSRGY), through the Nespresso Capsules. The market scene for China, however, is looking very lucrative, and coffee companies are considering sending out branches to the country, to reap in the benefit of the growing consumer culture in the country. Following recent results at one of the locations in China, Nestle is hopeful of the fact that demand for coffee will soon start growing, and as such, the company has been bracing itself to spread out in the country. The scene is looking lucrative for the sales of portioned coffee of good quality.
There have been demands for more Nespresso machines, and the celebration of the year of the Dragon, being held in Hong Kong which has been ornamented by the luxury brand, Shanghai Tang, is also significant in this context. Starbucks is also planning on introducing the Verismo single-serve to China by 2013. This announcement by the coffee-chain was made during April, this year.
With the wealth of the people on the rise, comes a certain taste for all things expensive and exotic, and that is exactly what is happening in China. Despite lesser number of per capita consumption of coffee as compared to many other countries, there is a demand for luxury items such as coffee, even though the demand is latent. Especially in the bigger cities such as Shanghai, the demand is palpable. Other brands such as Mondelez International are also looking to set up their business in China.
The opportunity for companies has been illustrated with the help of statistics by various analysts. Euromonitor International is a research institute which pointed out that Coffee Pod sales have gone up over the last year, and that standard ground coffee is also showing levels of growth in terms of sales. The field is ripe for companies, and this might be the perfect time for them to sow in their coffee products and machines in the country. With the growth of the Chinese middle-class, China will also see a growth in the availability of coffee. Nespresso’s expansion plans have not been revealed as of yet.

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (NASDAQ:GMCR) Keurig Brewers To Offer Snapple Iced Teas - DPS

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc.(NASDAQ:GMCR) has grabbed a deal with Dr Pepper Snapple Group Inc.(NYSE:DPS)  to offer Snapple premium iced teas in K cup and Vue packs for Keurig single-cup brewers, scheduled to begin next year.

The move comes at a time when the leader of the single-serve coffee industry gears up for a wave of new single-serve coffee brewers entering the market in the US.

The Snapple K-Cup iced teas will be available in the US and Canada by spring of 2013. The Vue packs will follow, as per the statements made by the firms on Tuesday.

The new beverages will join an existing line specially crafted to prepare iced beverages with any Keurig brewer.

Single-serve coffee pods are predicted to reach $959.1 million in retail sales this year, up 32%, as per the report of Euromonitor International. That would account for nearly 10% of the overall coffee market that is estimated to grow by a meagre 6% this year.

Apart from the coffee that is sold to offices, Green Mountain’s share of the retail market was 54% previous year, down from 60% in 2010 and 63% in 2009, as told by Euromonitor.

It has been noted that any news on restricted top-line growth for Green Mountain is often confronted by an overreaction. The market is anxious about the most recent reports on earnings that might shade some light on the position of the company in the upcoming years.

Earlier the Keurig brewers were sold at cost price. At times, they were even sold at a loss and a major portion of the company’s profits were achieved through the sale of the K-cups. Any third party selling K-cups had to pay a royalty to Green Mountains. Presently, some of the patents have expired. So, any company is free to roll out its own K-cups without being obligated to pay royalty to Green Mountain.

Shares of GMCR were up 1.31% to $22.83 in Tuesday’s session.
