After opening slightly higher, the tech sector came under selling during late morning session as all of a sudden Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL) turned sharply lower after the company’s earnings came below analysts’ target late Thursday and the company’s earnings forecast were disappointing too. NASDAQ Composite(INDEXNASDAQ:.IXIC) was down 0.75% at 2,964.27.

The company posted EPS of $7.67 on revenue of $35.97 billion, compared to analysts’ estimate of $7.65 on revenue of $35.81 billion.

However, the key disappointment came from the company’s lackluster guidance as the company projects to earn $11.75 with revenue of $52 billion in the first quarter, well below analysts’ estimate of $15.75 on revenue of $55 billion.

Unlike every other time, this morning at least 3 brokerages downgraded the stock price’s target by up to $50 stating lower forecast on weak margin.

Analyst at Evercore Partners trimmed its PT by $25 to $775, Nomura Equity Research lowered $50 to $660 and Raymond James lowered by $30 to $700.

However, few analysts project gross margins to improve by June next year as rising volumes trim manufacturing and component costs.

QUALCOMM, Inc.(NASDAQ:QCOM) added 1.86% to $58.50 after analyst at BMO argues the Q3 results (I, II) of mobile phone OEMs suggest the company's December and March quarter EPS will be well above expectations. Apple's iPhone beat matters more to Qualcomm than its iPad miss - though designed into the 3G/4G iPad, Qualcomm's iPhone exposure is easily higher.

Maxwell Technologies Inc.(NASDAQ:MXWL) shares slumped 23% as the company now projects to generate revenue of $39.20 million in the first quarter, well below analysts target of $52.20 million.

Acme Packet, Inc.(NASDAQ:APKT) shares soared 14% as the Street is relieved to see Q4 guidance for revenue of $270M-$275M and EPS of $0.43-$0.47 (consensus is for $272.2M and $0.47). The VoIP infrastructure provider noted on its earnings call European service provider demand is "a bright spot," even as North American demand (long a problem) remains weak.

Applied Micro Circuits Corporation(NASDAQ:AMCC) added 25% following it FQ2 report. Though results were ho-hum, the beaten-down telecom chipmaker guided on its earnings call for FQ3 revenue to rise 8%-12% Q/Q (consensus is for a 7% increase). QUALCOMM, Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM) gives Vellamo a thorough makeover

The Vellamo benchmark suite is being given a good makeover by chip designers, QUALCOMM, Inc.(NASDAQ:QCOM) . Major updates are being added to make the benchmark better than it was before. The chip designers are going to lay more stress on HTML5 as well as Javascript and new tests as being held in order to make representations of like-like scenarios during usage scenes. Video-streaming tests are also being conducted, and Qualcomm is also going to provide support for Medfield processors by Intel.

The designers have managed to build a version for the Android on x86 through which smartphones which are based on the Intel Medfield processors can also be examined and tested.

The Vellamo benchmark suite has been developed into two distinct kinds, by Qualcomm. The first kind has been tentatively titled as HTML5 and will, like the name suggests, give importance to HTML5 along with Javascript. The other division of the benchmark suite is called Metal, and it is mainly a hardware-based benchmark, with Dhrystone and Linpack as its special features. Whatever kind it may be, though, the Vellamo benchmark suite is sure to provide for a very pleasant and enjoyable user interface.

The Inline video tests are also being conducted, which consists of the installation of web servers on the device, so that it can stream a file with artificial network latency, and it can replicate WiFi, 4G as well as 3G web connectivity modes. However, such tests, while they may bring about success, and while the video streaming idea may bring about drastic changes, the security concern remains in the minds of quite a few people.

The idea of a web server which will emulate a network brings about concerns regarding security. The need to install a web server does not seem to sit comfortable with many, and there is a degree of risk involved in such a venture, although for real-life concerns, the video streaming idea is a very good one.

The director of product management at Qualcomm, Sy Choudhury, addressed this issue in an interview to the INQUIRER, by trying to placate the issues over security. He said the only way to speak to Vellamo was through the SLL connection and certification.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) Takes Suppliers Down – CRIS, QCOM, BRCM, TQNT

Shares of Apple component suppliers trade lower in response to the company's iPhone 5 sales data.
The morning, shares of the world’s largest company Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL) opened lower on Monday after disclosing below estimated sale numbers of its recently launched iPhone 5 during the weekend.

Shares of Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL) fell about 2% in first hour as the company saidthat it managed to sell 5 million of iPhone 5 during the opening week, which is not at all an impressive numbers compared to analysts target of 6-10 million during the weekend. If that’s not enough, the analyst’s target of 6 million was set for the worst case scenario. So a sell of 5 million is fueling further panic among investors at large considering the heavy success rate of Apple’s new launch in the past.

Like in the past, expectations were huge from the company’s latest development as the pre-order run out of stock in just an hour. After today’s fall, the stock has erased its entire gain in the past week.

In other news, Apple Inc. supplier Foxconn Technology Group ordered one of its Chinese factories closed Monday after a dormitory brawl reportedly escalated into a violent riot that took several hours to bring under control.
