Panic Over Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) App, Siri

Lawyers forced the tech giant Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL) to update its Siri service to include a feature that stops young people from accessing undesirable information.

The plea comes at a time after people in several Chinese cities reported online that the integral application can be used to search for places that offer sexual services.

Siri, which is available for iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 and other Apple products, is a gifted personal assistant and knowledge navigator. The reports are associated with the latest version for iOS 6, which is the first one to support the Chinese language.

A criminal lawyer at Yingke Law Firm based in Beijing, Tang Hogxin has been following the debate. He said the information provided by Siri may not be illegal as per Chinese laws and regulations. However, it can still prove to be a serious threat to youths. He said that Siri’s information is accurate and points to sex services.

He also said that the prostitution addresses on Siri have affected the public order and had a pessimistic influence. To put it differently, it has the capacity of disobeying rules if the software cannot be improved.

Tang has suggested that the country’s supervision administrations must be prepared to get involved if required.

A lawyer at Huicheng Law Firm, Wang Xing has agreed that information on Siri poses legal threats and it is urgent for Apple to take technical measures to stop similar cases.

He said that if the prostitution places on Siri are correct, Apple may be charged of disseminating undesirable information. If the information is confirmed wrong, the company could be embroiled in defaming entertainment venues.

A customer service worker at an Apple store in Beijing said that Siri does not have the technological capability to filter information. He added that there has been no clear response to the complaints by Chinese users from the headquarters of the company in China or the US.
