Google Inc(NASDAQ:GOOG) is assiduously promoting its tablet PC, Google Nexus 7, on its own home page.
It has taken advantage of the uncluttered, minimalist white architecture of its home page for running the ad for its Nexus tablet that competes with Amazon's Kindle Fire.
The ad may not always be visible but when it does, the tablet pops out of what looks like a slit on the screen. However in keeping with its creed of simplicity, there is only a line with the price above the image of the phone.
That line hyperlinks to the Google Play Store where the customer can buy the Nexus and all the other things that are available for sale.
Google rarely uses its home page to advertising anything, least of all its own products. The last time it had advertised was for its Nexus S cellphone and its Google Plus social network during its initial days.
It does use the home page for social causes or as in the case of the London Olympics to mark the major events each day.
The Google Nexus is crucial for the company in its plans to get gain a hold in the tablet PC market and reduce its dependence on Samsung, which is its biggest partner for mobile devices.
Google has seen a good response for the Nexus, especially because of its competitive pricing strategy, but Amazon which started off by launching the Kindle Fire last year, is now on the verge of releasing an upgraded version of it.
Apple will also be launching an iPad Mini and that is expected to compete directly with both Google and Amazon's products in terms of pricing and functionalities.
