Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s Effect: Samsung to Unveil New Galaxy Note in Berlin

The jury verdict against it notwithstanding, Samsung Electronics is all set to showcase its new Galaxy Note at an electronics show in Berlin on Wednesday.

On Friday last week, a federal court in San Jose held Samsung guilty of infringing on Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL)’s patents and copying its designs and made it liable to pay the Cupertino company more than a billion dollars in damages.

The Samsung Galaxy Note, the bridge between a phone and a tablet, is the most popular device after its Galaxy smartphone.  It has not been included in the list of smartphones that Apple is seeking to get banned in the United States.

The new Galaxy Note is an upgrade on the previous version and Samsung hopes that this will infuse some enthusiasm amongst its employees after last week's verdict.

"There won't be huge innovative changes in design, but the Note 2 will feature quite a few improvements and enable Samsung to carry on its strong sales momentum in the category," Lee Sun-tae, an analyst at NH Investment & Securities, told Reuters.

"With the launch, Samsung will also be trying to turn around downbeat sentiment after the U.S. legal defeat."

The Note's upgrade is expected to have a thinner and slightly bigger 5.5-inch screen, powerful quad-core processor, Google's new Android operating system Jellybean and improved stylus function.

The new Note comes three months after Samsung released the new Galaxy S smartphone, which has already sold more than 10 million, and succeeds the original 5.3-inch Note, which was introduced in late-October and was a surprise hit, selling more than 10 million within nine months.
