Microsoft Corporation(NASDAQ:MSFT)’s silence on t pricing of its new operating system, Windows 8, has rattled the technology community, which feels that the software company has taken on too much this time.
Analysts feel that the delay in pricing was due to the company trying to accommodate both its desktop operating software as well as the mobile market. Microsoft is not only releasing the desktop version of its software but will also release a version for mobile phones.
"The delay in releasing pricing is all about uncertainty around the PC market and competition from Apple," Patrick Moorhead, principal analyst with Moor Insights & Strategy told Computer World.
"Microsoft needs to price Windows in a way that looks smart versus Apple's OS X, doesn't leave money on the table with commercial PC customers, and enables OEMs to compete better with the iPad."
It’s just about two months to its launch date and without the pricing information, OEMs and other stakeholders cannot formulate their own sales and marketing strategies.

When releasing previous versions of its flagship operating software, Microsoft has disclosed the pricing weeks before its `release to manufacturing’ milestone and months before its actual sales in stores.
This time however the RTM milestone has come and gone on Aug. 1 and there's no sign yet of the pricing of the new software. It is expected to go on sale from October 26.
The only price that Microsoft has revealed so far is the $39.99 it will charge Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 users to upgrade their PCs to Windows 8 Pro.
Microsoft is also scheduled to make its debut in the world of tablets with the launch of Surface, later this year.
