Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) files patent ownership for Siri With 51-page application

Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL) has filed a patent ownership for its voice assistant Siri, that it had launched last year with the iPhone 4S.

AppleInsider, which obtained access to the application filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, said that it described a system that "engages with the user in an integrated, conversational manner using natural dialog, and invokes external services when appropriate to obtain information or perform various actions."

Siri was an application acquired by Apple last year.

The filing made by Apple contains a description of all the features of the software that is familiar to users of the iPhone.

According to the filing made by the company, "Many users may have difficulty even discovering what functionality and/or information is available on their electronic devices or on various websites. Thus, such users may become frustrated over overwhelmed, or may simply be unable to use the resources available to them in an effective manner."

It pointed out that smartphones came with numerous applications each of which had their own user interfaces and it could prove difficult for users to master all of them or navigate their way around them.

Siri is voice-based software that acts as an assistant to the user and can answer questions pertaining to nearby restaurants, local services, nearby businesses and so on.

Published by the USPTO this week, the filing was first made by Apple in June of this year, and is a continuation of a patent filing made in January of 2011, AppleInsider said.
