Ever since Apple’s mapping tool has been criticized, there have been rumors of Google Maps being re-installed into iPhones. But, Eric E. Schmidt, Google Inc(NASDAQ:GOOG)’s chairman has confirmed that no such decision has been taken since Apple replaced Google’s mapping tool with their own in-built app. He also expressed his opinion that Apple should have kept on Google Maps.
But Schmidt did not breathe a word about if a new maps app has been submitted to Apple’s App Store. According to Bloomberg, this is a golden chance for Google to tell users that phones with Android have better mapping tools, which might lead Apple loyalists to switch to other phones.

Rivals like Motorola Mobility that was taken over by Google, have seized the opportunity right away by coming up with a post on Google Plus that openly mocks the new Apple mapping tool by stating that Google Maps will help to get to the place you want instead of getting you lost in another area. There is a picture of its new Razr M and iPhone along with the post. Nokia Corporation (ADR)(NYSE:NOK) too, compared Apple’s mapping tools with their own in a blog post and claimed that Nokia’s was better. Mapping tools need to be correct and must be capable of guiding you anywhere.
Barry J. Glick, chief executive of a navigation company called ALK Technologies has stated that though Apple’s mapping tool leaves a lot to be desired, it should be cut some slack as developing a perfect mapping app is anything but easy. Proper detailing, routing, and integration with third-party data takes a long time and is exhausting work.
Others like Waze, a navigation company that is providing some traffic data to Apple, don’t share similar opinions. Noam Bardin, chief executive of Waze told Business Insider that Apple Maps is of no use as it can’t help you to locate anything. If it does generate a location, it will be erroneous in terms of geography and the routes given to you might not be optimal ones.
