Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) V Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) : Is Android Better than iOS? Let us find out!

According to Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), its new iOS 6 update was used by 100 million iOS devices, just after 3 days of its launch. However, this is nothing miraculous since people queue up immediately after Apple releases a software update, in order to enhance the functionality of the device, fix problems, and add more features.

The iOS 6 update has numerous attributes such as integration with Facebook, Siri being able to interact more efficiently, its own mapping tool, and to the built-in Mail app and Safari browser. But it is too early to say if all the brand new additions and upgradations will allow Apple to surge past Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s Android.

When compared to the Jelly Bean-powered Nexus 7, iOS 6 does not come up to mark. It is stable and has a user-friendly interface but these features are nothing new and have been around for years. Apple’s mapping tool is not faring too well and is of no use to Indians (along with Siri) as it is not supported here. Google has a strong presence in India and is way more efficient in answering and recognizing accents than Siri. Speech recognition files can be downloaded as well for offline dictation.

The Apple Apps store was extremely rigid when it made it debut, as it would not allow third-party apps that had similar functions like the existing ones. Although it is much more flexible now, the default apps in iOS 6 still can’t be changed for better ones. Apps on Android can be replaced even if they are developed by a third-party, like the Swype keyboard app, which allows typing on a keyboard on the screen.

Social networking with iOS 6 is smooth, but storing interesting information from the Internet, needs to be done with the aid of bookmarklets. Android scores over iOS by letting the apps decide if they want to be included in the “sharing” menu of the device. The iTunes app store has undergone a change but only in design and layout rather than improved functionality. To buy apps, one has to launch the “App Store” app on the iOS device or the bloated iTunes software on your laptop or PC. Android allows you to manage apps on all your registered devices from the browser itself.

Apple is indeed facing huge competition from Google because the latter has come up with their own version of apps that are at par with those of the former.
