Major Gainers Of The Day – CDTI, AONE, ATML, GRPN, COG

Clean Diesel Technologies, Inc.(NASDAQ:CDTI) shares popped up 12.66% to $2.67 on very unusual volume after Honda (HMC) announces that it will begin selling its 2013 four and six-cylinder Accord models incorporating CDTI's palladium-only catalyst on September 19. The catalyst design significantly reduces precious metal content and cuts the use of Rhodium by 50%.

A123 Systems, Inc.(NASDAQ:AONE) extending gain for the second consecutive day and rose 22% to $0.285 in absence of any news. Shares are now up 50% on the week, though they're still changing hands at a paltry $0.30. It looks as if the shorts who control much of the electric car battery maker's float are booking some profits.

Atmel Corporation(NASDAQ:ATML) added 3% as well after announcing one of its touchscreen controllers is used in Samsung's (SSNLF.PK) Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet. The Note 10.1, which tries to differentiate itself by offering a stylus and a split-screen mode, has received mixed reviews. And its $499 price tag puts it at clear disadvantage to cheaper hardware from Amazon, Lenovo, and others.

Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation(NYSE:COG), Southwestern Energy Company(NYSE:SWN) and Range Resources Corp.(NYSE:RRC) as higher-growth mid-cap gas-levered names it believes will benefit from rising gas prices into 2013. Of the three, the firm notes COG has the highest-rate Marcellus wells, an achievable capital program, and compelling well results in the Eagle Ford. Shares of Cog are up over 5%, SWN rose 5% and RRC jumped 4.70%.

 Groupon Inc(NASDAQ:GRPN) is bouncing in the absence of major news; with shares still well below $5, the company's many shorts are free to book huge profits. Evercore's Ken Sena, who downgradedshares to Underweight last month, went on Bloomberg today (video) to discuss Groupon's dependence on up-front cash payments for daily deals billings to maintain positive cash flow, and the potential for cash flow to turn negative as billings drop. Shares of GRPN are now up 7%.
