Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s MFI program in November to cover Lightning guidelines

Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL) may hold its MFI program for partners in Shenzen, China according to Tech Crunch, which attributed the report to a source close to Apple's accessory manufacturing partner.

The MFI or Made For iPod/iPhone/iPad (MFI) program is scheduled to be held on November 7 and 8. Last year it was held between December 7 and 9, after it had expanded the program to promote adoption of new AirPlay and Bluetooth Standards.

iLounge had first reported earlier this month that the conference for MFI partners was planned for November with some new rules.

Tech Crunch said that one of the new rules was that "Apple’s Lightning pin supply is controlled by the company itself, and it supplies approved MFI partners with production quantities of the pin once their product is determined to have met its standards and specifications."

According to the report the company sells them in volume and it quoted the source as saying that the pricing was actually very fair considering the advanced technology involved in the connector’s construction."

The report added that while regulation of sales by apple was not surprising, pirated copies by Chinese engineers were still likely to make their way into the market, "but that using their products in accessories could incur legal action or goods being confiscated by customs authorities at border checkpoints."

Of course to safeguard customers from low quality copies from the company has taken adequate security measures but there is evidence that some companies are ready to create "off-brand Lightning cables at prices that undercut Apple’s, as one of our tipsters was able to negotiate a quote for volume orders of the same at between $10 and $12 per piece, with an estimated ship date for later this month."

Shares of AAPL are down 0.77% to $645.04.
