Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL): Samsung denies ending supply of LCD panels

Korean handset maker Samsung Electronics has denied a story put out by the Korea Times which said that Samsung would no longer be producing LCD panels for Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL)’s various devices.

A spokesman for Samsung said that story in the Monday edition of Korea Times was "100 percent false," and has demanded that the story should be retracted by the publication.

"Samsung Display has never tried to cut the supply for LCD panels to Apple," the spokesman said.

Reports about Apple whittling down its dependence on Samsung as a source of components used by it on various devices have been gaining ground recently.

Apple recently cut NAND flash orders from Samsung for its iPhone 5 shipments.

Samsung, which supplied Apple with 15 million LCDs in the first six months of 2012, reportedly shipped only 3 million LCDs to Apple in the third quarter and is expected to drop that number down to 1.5 million in the fourth quarter, Apple Insider reported.

Apart from Samsung, Apple has now brought other component makers such as LG and Sharp, both of which companies are now part of the company's supply chain.

While Apple and Samsung have yet to snap ties, the two companies are engaged in bitter legal battles in court across continents, where they have accused each other of infringing on patents and violating copyrights.

These lawsuits are now threatening to spill over the business relationship between the companies as well.
