Rumors: Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) Carbon Fibre Shipments Due To A Multi-Year Agreement

It was last month when Macotakara had reported that Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL) had placed order for carbon fibre parts for an unknown product from a company in Japan. The order was said to be too huge to just be a sample. However, no other detail on the part was disclosed.

Macotakara now reports that the shipments are actually the outcome of a long-standing partnership between Apple and the carbon fibre company that dates back to three years.

Details on the particular part of the device for which it is projected are still not known. However, Apple is believed to be seeking to make a totally different weaved fibre from what is used in other products.

Apple’s interest in carbon fibre is famous and there have been a number of rumors that suggest that Apple was toying with the idea of using a carbon fibre rear shell on its iPad 2 to enhance its strength while reducing its weight. Such attempts obviously did not materialise but it seems to be clear that Apple is still interested in the material.

The rear of the current iPad is made from a single billet of aluminium that increases the weight and also improves the rigidity of the gadget.

This is not the first time that we are hearing about carbon fibre having its use in mobile products. Motorola has been doing it with their Doird Razr line that features an iconic weave pattern on its back. Apple may not be using the same pattern again, but everyone is curious to see how it will look on the upcoming Apple products.

If Apple ends up incorporating carbon fibre in its products, it surely will bring a completely new level of quality to the iPad, iPhone and MacBook line of products. They will be lighter and also more durable and rigid than they were ever before.
