Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) & Google's Motorola: Another Patent War

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s Motorola Mobility unit has filed a new patents infringements case against Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL), the company said on Friday.

The suit filed claims that the iPhone maker has infringed on its patents with some of its features such as the Siri Voice Assistant.

The other patent violations mentioned in the case filed with the U.S. International Trade Commission include location reminders, email notification, phone and video players.

Motorola has sought a ban on the import of Apple's devices into the United States, including the iPhone, iPad and Mac computers. Apple's devices are all made in Asia.

“We would like to settle these patent matters, but Apple’s unwillingness to work out a license leaves us little choice but to defend ourselves and our engineers’ innovations,” Motorola Mobility told Bloomberg in an e-mailed statement.

The two companies have been involved in patent disputes since 2010, after talks to cross-license failed. The Cupertino company has said that Motorola's phones violated its patents and indeed Google encouraged all devices running on its Android operating system to copy patented features of Apple's iPhones.

The U.S. Trade Commission will be announcing a final decision on an earlier patent dispute between the two technology firms. it is widely expected that an import ban might be imposed on the iPhone.
