Samsung and Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL) are back to slamming each other. On Saturday, the Korean consumer electronics company accused Apple of restricting the choices for customers in the matter of buying smartphones and mobile devices.
These accusations came a day after Apple added the Samsung Galaxy S III to the list of devices that it says infringed on its patents. It is also seeking a ban on the sales of the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note, both of which are popular selling devices of the Korean handset maker.
On August 24, a federal court in San Jose upheld claims by Apple that Samsung had infringed on several of its patents and copied the designs of its iPhones and iPads.
Apple also submitted a list of eight devices of Samsung which it wants banned in the United States. Now it has added 21 more devices to its original list of products that it said was infringing on its patents.
The U.S. is the world's largest smartphone market and a ban in the country, would have a severe effect on Samsung that is now the leading smartphone seller globally.
Coming down sharply on Apple's actions to try and halt the sales of its S III, Samsung said, ""Apple continues to resort to litigation over market competition in an effort to limit consumer choice. We will continue to take the necessary legal measures to ensure the availability of our innovative products in the United States."
The Galaxy SIII has sold 10 million units till July, in a matter of less than three months from its release. The device has been driving the profitability margins of the company.
In documents filed with the court on Friday, Apple said, ""Rather than innovate and develop its own technology and a unique Samsung style for its smartphone and tablet computer products, Samsung has chosen to copy Apple's technology, user interface, and innovative style."
