Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Reportedly Adding 1000 Staffs

According to latest reports, Microsoft Corporation(NASDAQ:MSFT) is planning to hire more than 1,000 employees in China this year. This will boost development and research as Microsoft tries to cope up with Google and Apple in the fast-evolving mobile internet market.

The declaration contributes to the intensifying rivalry in wireless industry in China. Nearly 400 million people surf the internet in China through mobile phones and other devices. Microsoft is popularizing its Windows 8 mobile operating system but it was late in doing so. Now it is following Apple and Google.

Ralph Haupter, Microsoft’s CEO in China has said in a news conference that the company respects that it has two rivals in the market that are playing a strong role. The company is ready to counter attacks and have different provisions to change the game plan.

Haupter also said that the new employees will add to Microsoft’s workforce of 4500 in China. The new workforce will be spread across research and development, customer service and marketing.

According to Ya Qin Zhang, Chairman for research and development in Microsoft’s Asia Pacific, said that research spending in China will increase by 15% over the figure last year of $500 million. The current research staff of 3000 will be increased by 15%.

Global technology companies and local competitors are splurging heavily to gain a grip in the mobile internet market in the most populous market as Chinese users adapt quickly to the new technology.

Chinese search engine Baidu has released its own mobile browser this week to compete with Apple and Google. Baidu has also announced that it will open a cloud computing center.

China had as many as 538 million people online at the end of July. The share that utilizes wireless devices increased very fast, rising by 22% to 388 million.
