Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) New Lumias Have Wireless Charging Capabilities


The two Lumias unveiled by Nokia Corporation (ADR)(NYSE:NOK) on Wednesday both have wireless charging capabilities, an innovative feature for power management.

Nokia's executive vice-president, Jo Harlow, who introduced the smartphones running on Windows Phone 8 said, ""Whenever you recharge, your phone can recharge too. It's the start of a new era in smartphone power management."

The European company has entered into partnerships to set up wireless charging stations for the convenience of users who want to charge on the go. Some of its partners are Virgin Atlantic, The Coffee Bean and the Tea Leaf.

Nokia has used its previously launched PureView technology for the cameras installed on its new Lumia 920. It not only enables the taking of pictures at a very high resolution but also software built in that stabilises the image, even though the hand may be moving.

"The Lumia 920 camera captures five to ten times more light than other smartphones," Harlow said.

The 4.5 inch curved glass screen of the Lumia has been made sensitive enough to be handled by users with gloves on.

Nokia's chief executive Stephen Elop speaking t CNBC after the event said that the company is working hard to offer innovative features to users and turn the company around.

For Nokia the success of the new smartphones are crucial for its way ahead while it will also put on test its partnership with Microsoft.

The Finnish handset maker has decided to junk its Symbian operating system in favour of the Windows operating system.
